Your Bite Doesn\u2019t Feel As Secure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest things to watch out for is how well your dental crown adheres to your tooth. If you begin to notice your dental crown feels like it\u2019s coming loose, or that there are obvious signs of wear and tear, that\u2019s a telltale sign that you need replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That may seem a little bit obvious, but the truth is that it can be a little bit difficult to tell when something is wrong with your dental crown on your own. That\u2019s why it\u2019s typically a good idea for you to see your dentist often so that they can take a look at your crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You Notice a Black Line Around your Dental Crown<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you got your crown several years ago, you probably got one of the porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns that were popular at the time. While durable, these porcelain crowns have a notable drawback that can start to crop up late in their lifecycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These crowns have a metal base that is designed to give them a certain amount of extra support, and this metal base is designed to be hidden under the gum line. As you get older, however, your gums will start to recede away from the dental crown, exposing this metal base and causing what looks like a black ring around your tooth. This is a flaw in the design of the crown, and there\u2019s nothing to do but replace it if you notice this issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You Feel Any Sensitivity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you start to notice that your tooth feels a lot like it might have before you got the dental crown, that\u2019s a sign that your restoration isn\u2019t protecting you to the extent that it ought to.
